Index Fund
Basics
O que significa
A type of investment fund (ETF or mutual fund) designed to replicate the performance of a specific market index, rather than trying to beat it through active management. Known for low costs and broad diversification.
Exemplo
VOO, SPY, and IVV are all index funds that track the S&P 500 Index. They do not try to pick winning stocks, they just hold all 500 stocks in the index.
Erro comum de iniciantes
Beginners think "index funds are boring" and try to beat the market by picking individual stocks. Over the long term, most active funds underperform their benchmark index after fees.
