Gap

Market Structure

Qué significa

A jump in price between one period's close and the next period's open, with no trading in between. Common in stocks at the open or after earnings.

Ejemplo

AAPL closes Friday at $150 and opens Monday at $155 after weekend news. The $5 gap means no one traded between $150 and $155 -- your $152 stop-loss cannot fill there.

Error común de principiantes

Beginners hold stock positions overnight with a stop-loss in the gap zone. A stop is a market order once triggered, so a gap down can fill your stop far below where you set it.
