Market Maker

Market Structure

Qué significa

A firm that quotes both buy and sell prices and stands ready to trade on either side, earning the spread. They provide liquidity so you can trade any time.

Ejemplo

A market maker quotes AAPL bid $150.00 / ask $150.05. You can buy from them at $150.05 or sell to them at $150.00 instantly -- they profit from the $0.05 spread on the round trip.

Error común de principiantes

Beginners think market makers are "trading against them." They are usually just providing liquidity for the spread; the real risk is the spread itself, not a personal conspiracy.
