Point

Basics

Qué significa

A one-unit move in the price of an asset, most often used for index futures and stocks where 1 point equals $1 per share or per contract.

Ejemplo

If the S&P 500 futures rise from 4,500 to 4,505, that is a 5-point move. On one ES contract, 1 point equals $50, so 5 points equals $250 per contract.

Error común de principiantes

Beginners mix up points, pips, and ticks across markets. A "5-point move" in forex means something completely different from a 5-point move in index futures.
