Trend Following

Strategies

Qué significa

A strategy that buys assets already in up trends and shorts those in down trends, holding until the trend clearly bends. It misses the exact top and bottom but captures the middle.

Ejemplo

A trend follower buys a stock when it makes a new 50-day high at $110, holds through pullbacks, and sells only when it makes a new 50-day low at $130 -- capturing a $20 move without calling the top.

Error común de principiantes

Beginners want to enter at the start and exit at the top. Trend following gives up both ends on purpose -- it waits for confirmation and exits after the turn, and that is why it actually works.
