GTC Order

Order Types

What it means

Good-Till-Canceled: an order that stays open until it fills or you manually cancel it. It does not expire at the end of the trading day.

Example

A GTC buy limit at $50 on a stock trading at $55 stays active for weeks; if the stock dips to $50 next month, the order fills automatically.

Mistake beginners make

Beginners forget about old GTC orders, then get surprised fills weeks later when the market has moved and they no longer want the trade.
